“Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing.”—Helen Keller
hey, I'm following you on tumblr I believe and I saw this picture (http://28.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_l2ju1r4zGO1qzb2hmo1_500.jpg) just wondering if you had any idea where to find something like that, I was thinking like Ikea or Pier 1 but I have no idea, it's wonderful!
Hi! Actually, none of this is IKEA or Pier 1, though both of those are on the top of my designing list these days. I’m not sure which piece you were talking about wanting, but most of it is custom-made, including the paint on the walls (we painted every single star by hand) and the quilt, which my grandmother made especially for the room. The star lights are from different places- one is vintage Wal-Mart (yeeks!) and the other was a gift. I used to work at Pier 1, and they don’t sell these kinds of lights anymore, although they used to. I’m sorry I can’t help you any more than that!
My two friends, Mandy and Kathy, are in Europe, as I’ve mentioned in the last several days. I prepared a set of envelopes for them to open in each new city. Each of the posts I make with a city listed at the bottom is their message for the new city.
Guy Noir (Garrison Keillor):It was one of those beautiful spring mornings in St. Paul when the world is green and wondrous and full of new life and some of the new life drifts on the breeze in the form of pollen and your eyes start to puff up and your nose fills up with new mucous. That's how it is with nature. Gives with one hand and takes with the other. I was trying to explain this to Wendell the news boy------
Teen:Is that something like the yin and the yang?
GK:No, it's the principle that inside every silver lining there's a storm cloud.
Teen:Is that what they call stoicism, Mr. Noir?
GK:No, it's called realism, Wendell. Stoicism is when you collect a lot of stuff and stow it in closets.
Teen:Oh. In college I think they said it was stoicism.
GK:Realism. You weren't listening very well, Wendell. You didn't heed what your professor said: you're not a hedonist.
Teen:I thought hedonism was someone devoted to selfish pleasure, Mr. Noir.
