My name is Andrea. I live in New Mexico with my husband and my cat. We just moved to Los Alamos from Las Cruces and are learning to live our lives without all our old friends nearby. I'm a Starbucks Barista and am working on loving being in a small town.

Yousuf Karsh: A Selection of his Work | Portraits →

I’m working on my self-assigned photography homework, reading up on some famous photographers.  I had no idea Karsh had made so many iconic photos we know today.  Along with each photo is a description of the day he took the photo.  Among my favorites is this anecdote from meeting Helen Keller:

Among the earliest articles I attempted to read while learning English was her “How to Appreciate the Beauty of Sunset.” “Now, having met you in person,” I said, “I will no longer think of you in terms of sunset but sunrise.” She quickly replied, “How I wish that mankind would take the sunrise for their slogan and leave the shadows of sunset behind them.”
