what if:
Sherlock planted the earpiece on John
Sherlock had the other earpiece
He was going to wait until after John had ran to his fake dead body
and then he was going to tell John through the earpiece something along the lines of ‘i’m not dead, but keep going. a sniper has his sights on you’
but because John fell over and the earpiece fell out
Sherlock couldn’t tell him
I DON’T KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS BUT AHHHHHH
1. Perfect use of SNL!DanRad gif.
2. If that was in John’s ear, it would be really annoying, and he would know it was imperative that he keep it in his ear, especially/even if it was some part of a larger plan. Maybe he listened to the whole thing between Moriarty and Sherlock, and the phone call was tapped and that is why Sherlock was saying all that bullshit about being a fake. But in reality, John knows that Sherlock is innocent because he heard all of the conversation before the phonecall. But maybe John didn’t know about Sherlock’s plan to jump and live through it, and he would have if he’d had the earpiece.
So the real question is, maybe he was disoriented, but the guy lived through violent, disorienting battle in Afghanistan. Why would he let the very annoying earpiece fall out now and just leave it there when it would have been of premeditated importance?
3. Maybe Martin Freeman is actually hard of hearing and this is the first time anyone’s noticed, and when it fell out of his ear, the shot was so good that they didn’t bother to go back and fix it- but that’s not likely in a show like this.

The awesome thing about Sherlock in this moment is that it’s that same moment when you realize you’re on your last leg of begging, and all that will do now is faux earnestness. I do this constantly to my best friends and husband— I know when I’m beat, and I think I’m a decent actor, but who am I kidding? Everyone knows I’m just trying to get my way.
