My dad and me at a Mart Twain historical spot in eastern Missouri (I am going out on a limb, but I think it was his birthplace). Part of my early giraffe fascination was with how tall my dad was- 6’5”. The thing everyone always said about my dad was that he was tall- and when they talked about giraffes, they focused on the fact that they are tall as well. When 3, I remember responding to the question, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” with “A giraffe!” I wanted to be tall like my dad. I’m not tall. My height measurement, however, is a switch of the numbers: I’m 5’6”.
On October 22, 2007, I went out on my first date with Joe to Bennigan’s when I found out my Monday night class was cancelled (we’d met in a tango class that semester). Now we’ve been to all four corners of the U.S. together, driven across it in the four cardinal directions, flown across the Atlantic, discovered new flavors and film, and gotten married. Happy first-date anniversary, Joe!
I painted this giraffe, now you should go make one too for this fun project!
