1. Oh, hello spring!  I feel like, with the constant flashes of cold here in northern New Mexico, I am constantly re-welcoming spring.  Goddammit, let’s just have more of these little flowers all over town and get our green!

I take a lot of photos of sunlight through the trees, so I just wanted to point out how weird the lighting is in this. If the lighting is in fact all natural, the mid-distance lighting to make the trees look light on this side is coming from something strange.  Still, I like this shot.

  3. Love the sunlight in the mountains. Sunlight through clouds and tree canopies… that’s how it should be.

Note: best viewed in larger size… I was dismayed when I posted it just now on Tumblr and the leaves make it look terribly pixelly!

  8. I kind of liked the lines the aspens were creating here.  I long for a flat forest to get one of those generic uber-straight line perspective shots.  Is that weird?  Uhhh… I’m being ironic.  Yeah.

  11. After driving to Alamogordo to try and borrow my mom’s car to drive to the mountains, we couldn’t get a hold of her, and took my little ‘95 Camry up the hill.  When we got to the top, we stopped to use the restroom and grab some lunch to take along on a hike.  We hopped back in the car… and it wouldn’t start.  We tried several times to make it work and nothing helped.
So we got out to call my stepdad and figure out what was going on.  So while we waited for a mechanic to come visit, we stepped into the Western Bar on Burro Ave. and had a couple beers each.  We loosened up and took the whole event in stride.  Eventually a mechanic did come, and when his wife got in the car—- after no work done by the mechanic yet—- it started right away.  She tried multiple times and it worked each time.  What a waste of hiking time!  But later on, Zack would bring up the point that it was rather idyllic and kind of a fun little experience.  I agree.
So then we were free to go on our hike.  We were supposed to be headed to this waterfall I’ve been to before, but I wasn’t really sure what the turnoff was.  So we ended up on my old standby trail, the Rim Trail.  Zack busied himself looking for and teaching me about mushrooms, climbing up and down the side of the mountain.  Here, the sun shines through the forest in the now-late afternoon.
